If you’ve just accepted Jesus as Lord: welcome home and congratulations! Did you know that there are angels rejoicing in heaven because of your decision to put your faith in Jesus? Seriously! The Bible says that:
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. – Luke 15:10
Accepting Jesus is something to celebrate! But if you’ve just become a follower of Jesus, you may be wondering what’s next. What do you do? Where do you go? How do you grow in God? If you’ve just accepted Jesus as Lord, you’re in the right place! With these four simple steps, you’ll learn how to establish healthy rhythms and spiritual disciplines to keep your relationship with God alive and thriving.
4 Important Steps After Salvation
1. Start With Belief
Putting your faith in Jesus is the cornerstone and bedrock of the Christian life. Jesus’ love is the reason for your surrender. As you grow in belief, you’ll discover that the love of God is better than you think, better than you’ve dreamed, and you’ve only just begun to experience His faithfulness to you. The two easiest ways to deepen your belief in God are to read the Bible and pray every day.

2. Embrace Your Mission
Now that you’ve accepted Jesus and you’re starting to grow your faith in Him, the next step after salvation is to embrace your mission. Thankfully, embracing your mission as a Christian is simple: love God, love others, and tell other people about Jesus’ love for them. Jesus tells us in the Bible to:
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. – Matthew 28:19-20
Embracing your mission can look like telling a close friend or relative what Jesus has done in your life, or it can look like starting a Bible study with friends who are curious to learn more about Jesus. Another way to embrace your mission is to travel abroad on a missions trip to grow your faith, serve others, and support the Church across the globe.

3: Commit to Obedience
If you love me, obey my commandments – John 14:15
If you’ve just accepted Jesus as Lord, it’s important to understand what lordship means. To make someone Lord is to make them the supreme authority and master over your life. To make someone Lord is to make the intentional choice to obey whatever they ask you to do, even if you’re not always comfortable with it. Thankfully, because we know that God’s character is good and His ways are perfect, obedience to God gets to be a good thing!

4. Pursue Community
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”’This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. – Matthew 22:37-40
As a new believer in Jesus, a healthy, Christian community is essential to your growth. God created you for community, and you were never meant to walk alone. Finding a church and attending every Sunday is one of the best ways to pursue community as a new follower of Jesus.
