Finding Peace of Mind Through the Scriptures
We hear it all the time – “I read that and I felt God,” “When I heard this Bible verse, I felt peace wash over me,” or “When I heard this song, I knew God was real.” On the Ask About My Faith podcast, we hear stories of people experiencing moments with God and receiving His peace. Many of our guests share that they encountered Jesus after reading, hearing, or singing the Word in worship.
A similar storyline appears as our guests journey deeper with God. They discover scriptures for stress, Bible verses about peace of mind, psalms to pray or sing, and even verses about world peace. God’s Word is living and active, sharper than a double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), and the Bible can minister to all who partake of it. Even you, yes you, reading this – there is peace for you today through Jesus!
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. - Jesus, in John 14:27
Why Is Peace So Hard to Find?
Throughout history, mankind has been searching for peace. Inner peace in the heart of man, outer peace by the absence of war, and world peace that reigns across the globe. We long for a perfect world where no one is hungry, no one is harmed, and there is no conflict. As we wrestle with the lack of peace in the world, we forget that peace was originally God’s idea and His good design for our lives.
If we rewind to the Garden of Eden, we find that all was well, all the time. World peace was truly present. There was no lack, nothing out of order, nothing out of line. When the devil entered the garden in the form of a snake to tempt Adam and Eve, human history changed in an instant.
Thankfully, there is a God who longs to bring peace back to the earth. It says in the book of Revelation that Jesus is going to:
…wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” - Revelation 21:4 -5 NIV
It might sound crazy that Christians believe in a literal second coming of Jesus Christ to the earth, but hear us out. Did you know that the statistical chances of one man fulfilling “just” 48 prophecies found in the Old Testament (about the messiah) are one in 10 followed by 157 zeros? This is from a study done by Dr. Peter Stoner, a mathematician who performed statistical analysis around Jesus’ fulfillment of scripture.
But what we find in the scriptures is astounding. Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies about his first coming, so we can take heart and be filled with faith that Jesus will be faithful about His second coming, where He will truly bring peace to earth.
This is the hope that the early church wrote about and longed for. So, no matter what happens to us, around us, or within us, we cling to the hope that Jesus will someday make every wrong thing right.
10 Bible Verses About Peace
While we can be sure of Jesus’ faithfulness to bring peace to the earth, what do we do today? How can we remember His promise to give us peace? It’s as simple as reading Bible verses about peace and praying for peace in our unique situations. Bible verses about peace of mind, finding peace, and the peace of God are throughout the Old and New Testaments. Here are some of our favorite finding peace Scriptures:
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” - John 14:27
Jesus made sure to tell His disciples and all who would read the Bible that He doesn’t hoard His peace, but He freely gives it to us. No matter what stressful situation you find yourself in, know that Jesus offers His peace to you at all times.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33
Thank God we can have inner peace no matter what happens in the world. Chapters 14-17 in the Book of John are full of Jesus’ last words to His disciples before He went to the cross. You can read the entire Upper Room Discourse in John 14-17.

How to Meditate on Peace Scriptures
Meditating on these Bible verses about peace is as simple as reading them more than once and offering our prayers to God. Sometimes when we’re struggling in stressful situations, renewing our mind with the peace of God requires us to meditate on the truth, even when it doesn’t feel true.
We recommend the following for mediating on these Bible verses to find the inner peace that only Jesus can offer:
Read the Bible verse on peace.
…(and then read it again!) Reading the same Bible passage over and over gives it time to sink into your mind and heart.
Say the Bible verse.
…(and then say it again!) When your mind is racing, it is very helpful to slow down and speak the Truth. Just like how it’s reassuring to hear, “You’re going to be okay,” it’s also helpful to hear our own voice speak the truth about God’s peace for us.
Pray the Bible Verse on peace.
Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as asking for help, grace, or strength. Thankfully, we know that Jesus always hears us when we pray.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer. - 1 Peter 3:12
Here are some examples on how to pray these Bible verses about peace:
Praying Psalm 46:10 - “Lord, give me grace to be still and know that You are God.”
Praying John 14:27 - “Father, I am asking for help to receive the peace that Jesus talks about. Help my heart not to be troubled. Help my heart not to be afraid.”
Praying 2 Thessalonians 3:16 - “Jesus, You are the Lord of peace and You promised to give me peace at all times and in every way. Please give me grace to trust in Your peace today.”
Conclusion
As we’ve seen through the scriptures, Jesus is the peace that surpasses understanding, even in stressful situations. God is gracious to acknowledge our weakness and prepare us for troubled times by giving us His peace that can calm and soothe any soul.
