This week's guest on the Everyday Faith podcast is Cassie Goosen, an all-in follower of Jesus and a mom to seven kids. Yes, you read that right: seven kids! Her oldest is 12, and her youngest is 18 months. Her husband, Dean Goosen, joined us on the podcast just a few weeks back, where we talked about belief and how to strengthen your faith in God. Cassie and her husband have a flourishing faith, despite the chaotic moments that come with a growing family and a growing ministry.

Whether you’re an adoptive mom, a biological mom, a spiritual mom, or waiting to become a mom, you’ll love Cassie’s wisdom and honest stories. You’ll be equipped to live each day with your faith in mind. Be encouraged by Cassie’s story of embracing motherhood and following Jesus!

The Journey into Motherhood

It may come as no surprise that Cassie grew up in a large family. She is the eldest daughter, with 10 siblings – 6 brothers and 5 sisters. In some respects, Cassie feels like she’s been mothering those around her since she was three years old. She was parented by a mom who was emotionally and spiritually wounded, often struggling with her mental health in front of the kids. So, when Cassie became a mom at 27, she was met with the fear of not wanting to repeat her family’s story.

Rather than being paralyzed by fear, Cassie chose to cry out to God in prayer. One of her prayers in this season was, “God, help me become a really good mom.” In God’s kindness, he spoke to Cassie’s heart and gave her a promise she holds on to today. She heard the Holy Spirit say, “I am the best co-parent you could ever have.”

This moment of clarity and comfort helped her to heal, find joy, and receive the truth of God’s nearness. If you’re wondering where God is right now, you’re at the right place. Jesus is always with you, always for you, and always praying for you! Learn more about the God who is everywhere and always hears your prayers: God Meets You Where You Are

What is a Mother According to the Bible?

The idea of motherhood can feel intimidating. Being responsible for a little life is a big deal. From the inconsistent sleep, late nights, and early mornings of the newborn phase to the ‘terrible twos’, the intro into the tweens, to the teens, and beyond – being a mom isn’t a walk in the park. Not to mention, all of the ideas that culture has to say on the topic of being a mom. But thankfully, the Bible has so much to say about moms and provides so much encouragement to moms!

Mother’s Day Bible Verses & Scriptures for Mom

Being a mom isn’t a job that you apply for, interview for, and then accept. Being a mom is a God-given idea and identity that started in the Garden of Eden. The Bible speaks plenty about mothers, their goodness, kindness, and intention for life. The Bible honors moms by highlighting their nurturing and caregiving nature. God honors women so much that he decided to make it a concrete command in the Ten Commandments! Our first Bible verse for moms comes from the book of Exodus:

Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. - Exodus 20:12

Bible verses about moms are all throughout the scriptures, and one of the first mentions of mothers is in the Ten Commandments. This Bible verse about mothers reminds us just how much God cares about moms! Alongside commandments like: “Do not commit adultery,” ‘Do not kill,” and “Do not steal,” God intentionally made honoring your father and mother a command in the Bible for all time.

The Ten Commandments are an essential piece of scripture for all believers. Curious to learn more about Bible verses for new believers? Check out our blog: 50 Bible Verses Every New Christian Should Know

This Bible verse for moms highlights the strength and dignity that women carry from God. And, too, that their children and family will praise moms because of the strength, dignity, and joy that they carry! The word “praise” in this Bible verse for mom isn’t like how we praise God in worship. It’s used here to commend, to boast about, or to shine God’s favor and light onto something. Every Mother’s Day, take time to intentionally boast about your mom!

I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. - 2 Timothy 1:5

This Bible verse about moms comes from the book of 2 Timothy. The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to Timothy from prison. Even though he was imprisoned, he honored the sincere faith of Timothy’s grandmother and his mother. This Bible verse for moms is a profound reminder of just how much God honors women. Biblical motherhood not only has a generational impact, but it also has an eternal impact!

He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. - Isaiah 40:11

This Bible verse for mothers highlights that God gently leads those who have young. The Lord is accessible to parent you while you are parenting your own children. As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” - Isaiah 66:13

This scripture for moms comes from the book of Isaiah. God gives the Israelites a picture of his love for them by reminding them of the comfort a mother brings to her kids. God could have chosen any other metaphor or picture to showcase his love, but he chose to use the picture of a mom.

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. - Psalm 127:3-5

This Bible verse for moms is a beautiful encouragement to the moms who feel like they’re in the trenches. Children are a heritage from the Lord! This scripture for moms even goes on to say that children are a reward from him! Whether you’re a new mom, an adoptive mom, an expectant mom, or waiting to become a mom, God loves your family and loves you as a mother!

Bible verses for moms are sprinkled all throughout the book of Proverbs! This scripture for moms encourages mothers to train up their children in the way they should go. And the beautiful piece of this scripture is that as you train your kids up in the way of God, it’s good news that they won’t depart from it!

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. - Psalm 139:13-14

Have you ever stopped to wonder why God decided to come into the world through the womb of a woman? Jesus chose to come into the world through a mom! Jesus decided to be nurtured through a mother’s love, even though he was perfect and divine. This Bible verse for moms shows the humility of Jesus and just how much he honors mothers!

Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck. - Proverbs 1:8-9

Mothers are a good and perfect gift to us! Where would we be without our moms? Whether they’re spiritual moms, biological moms, adoptive moms, or soon-to-be moms, take time to honor the women in your life this Mother’s Day!

Words of Encouragement for Moms

As we finished our interview with Cassie, she gave three simple pieces of encouragement for our audience:

1. You’re Not Alone: As a mom, it can be easy to feel alone. However, the Holy Spirit is always with you. You are not alone! Finding community can be a struggle as a mom, but fighting for connection is always worth it. If you’re struggling with feeling alone, invite friends over for coffee this week or schedule a play date at your nearest park with a family from church. It’s always best to stay connected, even when you don’t feel like it!

2. You Are Not Unseen: A writer named William Wallace once wrote a famous poem called "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Is the Hand That Rules the World". This Mother's Day, go the extra mile and remind the women in your life about their powerful influence to make the world a better place.

Momma’s, the things that you do that feel unnoticed are not unseen by God. God will honor the sacrifices you’ve made for your children. You are cherished, loved, and play an essential role in the world and the Kingdom of God!

3. You Are Enough: One of the most common attacks of the enemy is to stir women into comparison, fear, and confusion. Exactly who you are is exactly who you need to be in this moment. Though we can all grow, learn, and excel in spiritual disciplines, striving has no place in the kingdom!

Conclusion

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let’s remember that motherhood—whether lived out in a nursery, a neighborhood, or in nurturing hearts—is a sacred calling deeply cherished by God. From Cassie’s inspiring story to the powerful Bible verses for moms, we’re reminded that God sees, equips, and honors women in every stage of their journey. Whether you’re in the thick of toddler tantrums, waiting with hope, or pouring into others as a spiritual mother, know this: your role matters to us, and your role matters to God. You are a good and perfect gift! So this Mother’s Day, our team at Ask About My Faith is praying that you would feel deeply loved, spiritually strengthened, and joyfully celebrated. To all the moms out there: thank you!
