How to Say Yes to God

Saying yes to God isn’t a one-time ordeal; it’s a continual choice to surrender to God and receive His love, leadership, and wisdom for your life. Saying yes to God can look like praying prayers that provide God with wide-open space to work in your life. If you’re wondering how to practically say yes to God, here are some examples:

Making the choice to stop a sin habit (like pornography, drinking, or drugs)

Making the choice to shift your career as God is leading you

Making the choice to move to a new place because God is leading you there

Sharing your faith with someone, even when you’re afraid

Taking the risk of praying for someone to be healed

These are just a few examples of what it looks like to say yes to God. During an interview with our friend, Yegor, we learned about how he said yes to God by taking a new job and going back to school at the same time. Even though he took a major pay cut when he chose to say yes to God, he hasn’t gone hungry or lacked fun in his life. Learn more about how to say yes to God by listening to our podcast on YouTube:

Saying Yes to God Today

Sometimes we like to delay saying yes to God. We convince ourselves that we’ll wait to say yes to God until after we feel fear go away or we feel better about ourselves. We try to clean ourselves up for God before we give Him our yes. This doesn’t have to be your story. You can say yes to God today; you don’t have to wait! Here are some prayers to help you say yes to God, wherever you are on your walk with Jesus:

“Lord Jesus, I don’t know what it looks like to follow you in this area of my life, but I want to surrender to you fully. Help me to trust you as I take the next first step towards a life of following Jesus and saying yes to God. Lead me in your path, for you are the Lord of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

“Father, sometimes I find it hard to trust you. I can cast my experience with my earthly father onto you, and I don’t want to do that in this situation. Help me to trust you as a Father who has my best interest in mind and to say yes to the plans you have for me. I pray this in Jesus name, amen.”

Embrace Gratitude as You Say Yes to God

The science around the power of gratitude is catching up with the word of God. The Bible is full of scriptures that tell us to be grateful in every circumstance. Not only can gratitude positively affect your brain, but it can also help you experience feelings of contentment and joy as you say yes to God in the little things and the big things.

Surrender to the Fear of the Lord

In the scriptures, we find that one of the easiest ways to say yes to God is to surrender to the fear of the Lord. The Bible talks about the fear of the Lord being the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 1:7). Because saying yes to God is a lifestyle of surrender, being intentional to live in the fear of the Lord helps you stay on the right path that God has for you. Jesus talks more about the narrow way in Matthew 17:

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Matthew 7:13-14

One of the easiest ways to say yes to God is to stay connected to the word of God. How can you know the fear of the Lord if you don’t know God? We recommend that you start with the Gospels and then work your way through the whole Bible to grow in connection with God.
