As our nation celebrates 250 years of freedom this Fourth of July, we want to honor God for how he has brought freedom to our nation, while bringing hope to those who feel spiritually bound. There is true freedom that Jesus offers every one of us through His sacrifice on the cross and His triumph over death. So, let’s dive into what true freedom actually looks like and the supernatural gifts God gives us this Fourth of July:
Honoring God for Our Nation’s Freedom
As a nation, America is celebrating 250 years of liberty. As we remember Independence Day, we also remember our founders who deeply believed in the providence of God. From the Pilgrims to the Mayflower to the Declaration of Independence, God has been a central point in American history. Many of the men and women who helped shape America were known to lean on their understanding of the Bible and natural law. In doing so, they concluded that liberty was not granted by kings or authored by governments, but it was given to us by our Creator: God. This conviction is woven throughout the Declaration of Independence. Our American heritage invites us to celebrate the physical liberty we have, but also the spiritual freedom that is found through faith in Jesus Christ.

What Does True Freedom Actually Look Like?
Whether you live in a free nation or a restricted nation, you can still experience spiritual, physical, and emotional bondage. Thankfully, Jesus offers true, lasting, and genuine freedom that no government can offer and no amount of resistance can stop. The freedom that Jesus offers isn’t the normal freedom that you think of. The freedom that Jesus offers is freedom from sin, freedom from fear, freedom from guilt, shame, and condemnation, and freedom from the spiritual powers of darkness.

However, God’s freedom doesn’t mean the absence of boundaries: it means living in the boundary lines that God has set for humanity. This kind of true, everlasting freedom begins when you surrender to God, confess the lies and fears you believe, and receive God’s truth, compassion, and infinite love.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. – John 8:36
How to Access the True Freedom That Jesus Offers
Accepting and receiving the freedom that Jesus offers is far greater than any form of freedom that a country can give. One of the easiest ways to experience freedom in your life is to address the lies that are keeping you bound. Even though freedom in Jesus happens at salvation, it is both an event and a process. Jesus gives you sudden freedom when you receive Him as Lord, but it is a daily choice to walk out that freedom each day.

3 Simple Steps to Access the Freedom Jesus Offers:
- Confess that Jesus is Lord: The first step in accessing the freedom that Jesus offers is to confess that Jesus is Lord. In the book of Romans, we read:
If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved – Romans 10:9
When you believe that Jesus is Lord, you have access to the spiritual gifts, favor, blessing, and protection that are only found in His name.
Surrendering to Jesus is simple. Thankfully, Jesus’ teachings are clear and recorded in the Bible so we can become like Him. Living like Jesus can look like praying for your enemies, feeding the hungry, praying for the sick, practicing forgiveness, praying the Lord’s prayer, and confessing your sins to God and those in your community.
