As we stand on the brink of a new year, some of us are looking forward to what lies ahead. Others may be afraid or uncertain about what is to come. Perhaps you are excited to leave the past year behind, or you are looking ahead to reach new goals. Whatever the case may be, all of us could use a fresh dose of hope in our lives.

In shifting times, the Bible provides hope in a firm foundation. Within its pages lies God’s message of faithfulness, love, and salvation. As we may look into the new year with uncertainty, God’s Word points directly to hope and restoration. It provides a roadmap for navigating the unknown terrain of the year ahead.

What does the Bible say about hope?

Bible Verses About Hope in Difficult Times

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

When we are going through difficult times, it can be hard to see beyond our current circumstance. But, we can instead fix our focus on the eternal hope that Jesus has promised us.

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. - Romans 8:18

This scripture about hope reminds us that our present troubles are temporary. But, when compared to the glory that is to come, our sufferings will fade away.

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. - Romans 5:3-5

This Bible verse about hope and faith teaches that suffering, rather than being avoided, can lead to positive outcomes. This process ultimately leads to hope. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s love is poured into our hearts, enabling us to endure and grow through our suffering.

In the stormy seas of life, Jesus is our unwavering anchor, a beacon of hope that pierces through the darkest clouds. When waves crash around us, we can look to Him as our safe harbor. Jesus will see us through any storm that comes our way. Fix your eyes on Jesus.
