Sometimes, as Christians, we can get so caught up in our own spiritual development that we don’t make time to share our faith with those around us. Throughout our day, we need to remember to listen & obey so we can hear from God and encourage those around us, even a stranger.

Our most recent guest on the Ask About My Faith podcast, Morgan Whitney, has some ideas and a few stories that may inspire you.

Morgan is truly an everyday believer who listens for the voice of the Lord and follows His instructions – whether it’s what co-op to go to or being the best trick-or-treat house in the neighborhood for Halloween! She shares her experiences learning to listen and obey God’s voice as she goes through her day-to-day life. We’re so inspired by this conversation and know you will be, too!

Sharing Your Faith is a Lifestyle, Not an Agenda

Instead of putting on the ‘evangelism hat’ and spending an hour on the street evangelizing, Morgan says, “I get to share my real life stories, share my dreams & passions and when those highlight the character of Jesus and the culture of his kingdom, my faith is being shared naturally. Then it’s a lifestyle and not an agenda!”

The “listen and obey” practice is part of Morgan’s Christian lifestyle. Here are 2 examples of how to implement this tool!

As you begin your day, pray, “Lord, use me today. Who do you want me to encourage?” Listen for His answer. It’s often the first thing that comes to mind!

Or, as you’re going into the grocery store or noticing a stranger, ask, “God, what do you love about this person?” Listen for an answer so you can use that to encourage them.

How to Encourage a Stranger: Befriending the Barista

Morgan has four grocery stores that she bounces between to find the right products and produce. One morning as she started her errands, she asked the Lord if she could encourage someone today and which co-op to go to.

When she got to the store, she felt God highlighting the barista and asked the Lord, “What do you want me to share with him?” After pausing to listen, she walked over and told him God loves him and gave a specific word of encouragement over his identity. Morgan went back to the store week after week and encouraged the same barista! He opened up that he doesn’t have many friends or a community around, so he appreciated her for seeing him.

After a few interactions, Morgan invited him over for a game night and dinner to meet her husband and friends from church. He came and even watched as they spent time in prayer after game night.

There hasn’t been a big repentance or salvation moment yet, but they’re pouring into this barista, loving him judgment-free and inviting him into their life.
